Financials at a Glance

Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (FoDACC) is committed to open, accountable stewardship of every donated dollar. Below you’ll find the key documents that show how we earn and spend our funds, explained in plain language.

IRS Form 990

  • What it is: Every U.S. nonprofit files an annual “Form 990” with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Think of it as our public tax return—it lists our revenue, expenses, programs, and any compensation of key staff and/or board members.

  • Why it matters: Because it’s filed under penalty of perjury, the 990 is one of the most reliable ways for donors, partners, and the public to see how we use our resources.

  • Read ours: You can download our three most recent filings here:

    • 2023 Form 990 PDF

    • 2022 Form 990EZ  PDF

Independent Audit

  • What it is: An audit is a thorough, line-by-line review of our financial records, conducted by a licensed CPA firm that has no ties to FoDACC. The audit firm verifies that our statements fairly reflect reality and that we follow generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Why we did one: Michigan law requires an audit in order to register as a charitable organization and accept donations. It protects donors, helps ensure compliance with state laws, and safeguards the broader charitable community.

  • Key takeaway: Our most recent audit (covering fiscal year 2024) gave FoDACC a clean or “unmodified” opinion—meaning the audit firm found our records accurate and our internal controls sound.
