“More Than a Stray” Book Release Party

Join us for the release of More than a Stray, a children’s book that brings the stories of Detroit’s shelter dogs to life.

Written by author Sue Valentine, the book shares the journey of a once-forgotten dog told through the dog’s own eyes, paired with soulful photographs captured by Metro Detroit youth during a summer program with Ruff Life Photography and the Detroit Public Library. The book release party will include:

• Live reading by Sue Valentine

• Book signing and “pawtographs”

• Copies of the book available for purchase

This project is a collaboration between writers, youth photographers, and Detroit’s adoptable dogs — showing the community that these dogs are not “just strays,” but companions waiting for families. Proceeds from book sales benefit animals at Detroit Animal Care and Control.
