Adopt A Dog at the Detroit Public Library

  • Detroit Public LIbrary - Main Branch 5201 Woodward Avenue Detroit, MI, 48202 United States (map)

Join Us for a Paw-some Dog Adoption Event at the Detroit Public Library Main Branch!

Get ready for a tail-wagging good time at the Detroit Public Library Main Branch at a very special dog adoption event on Sunday, May 19, 2024. We’ll be on the Kirby Street lawn outside of this storied and gorgeous library located on Detroit’s famous Woodward Avenue. We’ll be doing onsite, same-day dog adoptions there from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Whether you're looking to expand your fur family or just want to spend some quality time with adorable adoptable dogs, this event is perfect for all animal lovers!

Where?

We will be on the Main Library's lawn on the Kirby St side. In case of rain we will be in the Explorers Room.

Why You Should Attend:

  • Find Your Furry Soulmate: Meet a variety of lovable, Detroit shelter dogs eager to find their forever homes. Who knows? You might just meet your new best friend!

  • Expert Guidance: You'll have access to valuable information and resources to ensure you become the best pet parent you can be!

  • Fun for the Whole Family: Bring the kids, bring your friends, (DON’T bring any current pets) and don't forget to bring your love for all things furry! This event is open to everyone who wants to share in the joy of finding loving homes for these deserving animals.

  • Freebies! The first six people who adopt or foster a dog will receive a free, luxury dog bed. The first 50 attendees will get a free Digital Pet keychain game so you can take home a digital pet as well as a furry one!

How:

All you need to do is show up, meet the dogs, and if there is a good fit for you and one of the dogs, answer some key questions about how you’ll care for the dog and apply to take them home that day. This event is free and open to the public.

All adoptable dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are fully vaccinated. Adoptees receive flea, tick, and heartworm preventative along with a goodie bag full of toys, treats, food, and more.

Adopters must be 18 years or older, have a valid ID, and answer some key questions about your home and how you plan to care for the dog you’re interested in adopting. There is a requested $100 dog adoption donation fee that help support and care for other homeless pets.

Adopting a dog is a rewarding experience. You can save their life and add a lot of love to yours. View all available, adoptable dogs on our Adopt page.
