Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (FoDACC) is proud to announce its partnership with Project GRACE, a life-saving collaborative initiative between Dog Aide and Bark Nation, aimed at providing free spay and neuter services for owned dogs residing in the city of Detroit.

Project GRACE stands as a beacon of hope for Detroit's pet owners, offering free sterilization services without any income or breed restrictions. This partnership is a significant step forward in promoting responsible pet ownership and reducing the number of unwanted litters in our community.

Rachael Prenkert, President of Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control, expressed enthusiasm about joining forces with Project GRACE, stating, "At FoDACC, our mission revolves around elevating the care of pets in Detroit and preventing them from ending up in the shelter in the first place. Project GRACE perfectly aligns with our goals, and by collaborating with Dog Aide and Bark Nation, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of both pets and their owners."

Rachel Beno, Director of Operations for Dog Aide, shared her excitement about the expanded reach of Project GRACE with the addition of Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control. "Together, we are stronger in our mission to provide accessible spay and neuter services to all Detroit residents. This partnership allows us to extend our reach and impact, ensuring that more dogs in Detroit receive the care they deserve."

With Detroit's shelter facing similar challenges to overburdened shelter systems nationwide, the positive impact of spaying and neutering cannot be overstated. By providing increased access to spay and neuter services, unwanted litters as well as health and behavior complications that come along with unsterilized pets can be prevented. This will ultimately reduce the number of animals entering the shelter and will keep pets healthier and in their homes.

February is recognized as Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, making this collaboration even more timely and impactful. By pooling resources and expertise, Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control, Dog Aide, and Bark Nation aim to raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering pets while actively working towards a future where every dog in Detroit has access to these essential services.
