Announcing Open FoDACC Board Roles

Dear FoDACC Volunteers, Partners, and Supporters,

We’re excited to share a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference for pets and their people in Detroit. Are you ready to roll up your sleeves, take on important challenges, and collaborate with a passionate, dedicated team working toward a more humane future for our community?

As previously announced, the following FoDACC Board Roles will be open after June 30:

  • President

  • Treasurer

  • Directors of Foster Placement (formerly “Director of Placement Outreach”) – 2 positions

  • Director of Adoption Events & Dog Promotion (formerly “Director of Community Engagement”)

  • Director of Communications

  • Director of Fundraising

  • Director of Humane Education

As FoDACC continues to grow and expand our impact, we’re making important updates to how we recruit and select our working Board of Directors. It’s vital that our board includes individuals from diverse backgrounds who are not only passionate about our mission but also bring the skills, experience, and commitment needed to help us grow in alignment with our core values: transparency, accountability, and integrity.

In recent years, we’ve found that holding elections didn’t always result in strong engagement or broad participation, and many community members — especially newer volunteers — expressed a lack of familiarity with the roles, the candidates, or how the candidates aligned with the responsibilities of each role. We saw the need to take a more intentional approach to filling leadership positions, one that allows us to select the right leaders for where we are — and where we’re going.

With that in mind, we’re introducing the following updates for the 2025 board appointment process:

  • FoDACC is returning to a board-appointed model for filling Board Director positions.

  • We’ll consider applicants and nominees from within our community of fosters, adopters, volunteers, and partners — and we’ll also be reaching outside the organization to find the best fit for each role. All prospective board members will be asked to complete an application, which helps us better understand each candidate’s background, skills, and alignment with our mission.

  • The application deadline has been extended to Friday, May 30th to give everyone ample time to apply.

  • We’re hosting a Town Hall on May 19 to share more information about each open position and answer questions. Everyone is welcome — we hope to see you there!

  • Applicants will be thoughtfully reviewed, and those who demonstrate strong alignment with our mission and the requisite experience needed to be successful in their role will move forward in the process.

  • Final appointments will be made by majority vote of the voting members of the current board.

  • Full Bylaws are available for reference.

We believe this process will help us bring the right people to the table while continuing to prioritize transparency and community involvement. If you’ve ever thought about stepping into a leadership role — or simply want to learn more — we encourage you to reach out or attend the Town Hall.

Thank you for being part of the FoDACC family and for everything you do to support our mission. Your voice and your contributions truly make a difference!

With gratitude,
FoDACC Board of Directors
