Upcoming Events Cancelled Due to Insurance Issue

The Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (FoDACC) organization is facing a critical issue and we wanted to let our supporters and community members know the present situation.  

To protect our volunteers and supporters, FoDACC has had to cancel all upcoming external events with dogs and intake of new fosters because we no longer have liability insurance.  Our prior insurance policy can’t be renewed because Friends of DACC was included in a lawsuit.  We want to clarify that the dog involved in this litigation was never in FoDACC’s care programming, and we were not involved in its placement or management.

FoDACC is working to reinstate our insurance from this technicality and resolve the litigation.

More than 300 dogs are currently in DACC’s shelter and foster care.  In addition to no new foster contracts, the canceled events include Dogventures where people take dogs out for the day, offsite adoption events, storytelling at the library and free pet vaccination clinics.  People interested in adopting dogs can still visit DACC at 1431 E. Ferry Street seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. 

How long will this last?  We don’t yet have a specific timeline, but we are actively and aggressively exploring every option to restore programming as quickly and safely as possible. FoDACC is committed to an open line of communication with all of our valued volunteers, supporters, and stakeholders.  And we want to reiterate that all current foster contracts will continue to be supported as planned.

Trained Volunteers at DACC Needed! -Volunteers who have done orientation and sign a waiver can still help care for dogs at DACC and are needed now more than ever.  Volunteer hours at DACC are 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
