Help Move Dogs Before the Shelter Move

Help Volunteers Get the Word Out to Get Dogs Out

For anyone thinking about adopting or fostering a dog, NOW is definitely the time for dogs currently housed at DACC.

Volunteers with Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control are issuing a call for community members in the Detroit metro area, and Canada, to adopt or foster a dog ahead of the shelter moving to a new location.

Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (FoDACC) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that works to help homeless pets in Detroit through adoption, fostering, pet education, and spay/neuter/vaccination programs. While the organization has no role in shelter operations or decisions, it does work to support Detroit Animal Care and Control’s (DACC) efforts to care for animals in the shelter and place them in loving homes.

Currently there are more than 45 dogs available for adoption at DACC, located at 7401 Chrysler Drive in Detroit and open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to meet adoptable animals.

So how can you help?

  • Adopt or Foster - head to the current shelter 7 days a week

  • Approved Rescue Organizations - pull DACC dogs

  • Share! - Share this story out, share pictures of DACC dogs, share adoption event links

To incentivize people to adopt or foster a current shelter dog before the move, FoDACC has several special programs and events to make it easy for people to meet their perfect match and provide a loving home for a shelter dog in need. These include:

  • Pet Adoptions at Meadowbrook Ampitheatre - May 18
Hosted by Pet Supplies Plus, these free event is family-friendly and designed to feature adoptable pets. Come meet some cuties from DACC.

  • Adopt a Dog at the Detroit Public Library – May 19
FoDACC is partnering with the Detroit Public Library to host a special dog adoption event on the lawn of the Main Branch on Sunday, May 19 from noon to 3:00 p.m. The first 50 people to attend will receive a free Digital Pet keychain game and the first six people to adopt or foster a dog will receive a free, luxury dog bed.
